Acrylic Resins
Acrylic Resins
Acrylic is the starting material for the production of polymers. Acrylic material is a substance used in many fields in the modern industry. Acrylic is used in the manufacture of products such as sheet, paint, orlon, fiber, thread, glass and plexiglass.
Acrylic resin, on the other hand, is a resin that contains functional groups (amide, carboxyl, hydroxyl, epoxy groups, etc.), and resins that polymerize with the help of free radicals through the ethylene double bond of acrylic and methacrylic acid esters.
Acrylic resins have superb features such as color and gloss resistance, alkali and oxidation resistance, hardness, adhesion, bond strength and film life and have an important place among coating formulas.
Acrylic resins can be grouped as thermoplastic and thermoset resins.
- Thermoplastic acrylic resins are resins that can soften with heat. These resins are very high in color and brightness, alkali and oxidation resistance, hardness, adhesion and film life and have a distinguished place among coating formulations.
- Thermoset acrylic resins, on the other hand, form a cross-linked film to react spontaneously when exposed to heat or moisture with functional monomers. For this reason, they offer films with excellent resistance to organic solvents, moisture and UV light, and do not soften when exposed to moderately high temperatures in contrast to thermoplastics.
